The presence of HLA-B27 (Human Leukocyte Antigen B27) genetic marker increases the risk of developing some autoimmune diseases. Among these diseases, Ankylosing spondylitis (Bechterev's disease) and Reiter's syndrome (currently called reactive arthritis) occupy the main places. Ankylosing spondylitis (Bechterev's disease)
Description: Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting the lumbar and sacroiliac joints. AS mainly affects the spine and pelvic region, but other joints and organs can also be affected.
Reiter's Syndrome (Reactive Arthritis)
Description: Reiter's syndrome is characterized by the triad of arthritis, urethritis, and conjunctivitis that occurs after an infection. Also known as reactive arthritis, it is usually associated with bacterial infections (such as urinary tract, sexually transmitted infections, or gastrointestinal infections).
Ankylosing spondylitis (Bechterev's disease)
Back and hip pain: Increased pain, especially in the morning and after prolonged inactivity. Pain and stiffness that eases with activity.
Stiffness: Stiffness in the back and neck, especially in the morning.
Limited range of motion: Limited or sometimes complete loss of range of motion in the spine.
Uveitis: Inflammation of the middle layer of the eye, which can cause eye pain, redness, and vision problems.
Loss of appetite and weight loss: In some cases, loss of appetite and weight loss may be observed.
Fatigue: A chronic feeling of tiredness and lack of energy.
Affecting internal organs: In some cases, heart and lung problems may develop.
Reiter's Syndrome (Reactive Arthritis)
Arthritis: Swelling and pain, most commonly in the knees, ankles, and toes.
Urethritis: Burning and pain in the urethra, frequent urination and changes in the flow of urine.
Conjunctivitis: Redness, burning sensation and watery eyes.
Changes in the skin and nails: Discoloration and thickening of the nails, skin lesions on the soles of the feet and palms.
Joint pains: Back and hip pains can also be observed.
Fatigue and fatigue: A chronic feeling of tiredness and lack of energy.
